Required of all music majors. A comprehensive study of Western musical history from 1800 to the present, including important trends in American music and influences from non-Western musical traditions. Topics include major technical developments and trends, the influence of extra-musical events and context, and the lives and works of important composers.
Prerequisites: MULH 2380 admission as music major, or permission of instructor.
